Basic Background & Conclusion:
Katy Price, the Irish International Grand Prix rider, bought Kasper as a 3 year old in 2000 and trained him all the way to Grand Prix, In January 2006, Kasper was wormed and treated with his annual flu jab. 10 days later he developed laminitis and following veterinary examination was found to be suffering from Cushing’s disease.
During the course of the next 3 years Kasper continually suffered from a number of recurring health problems, including Cushing’s issues once again.
In 2009, Katy’s vet advised her that due to the amount of medication that had been administered to Kasper to manage his disease over a prolonged period, he couldn’t recommend further medication for him, which even included his annual flu jab.
At the 2009 CDI Vidauban, Katy received a phone call from her vet telling her that Kasper’s condition was such that he saw no alternative but to put him to sleep on humane grounds.
Fortunately for Katy, Wayne Channon was competing in Vidauban, and he told her about the success that horses have had with a simple anti-oxidant product called Mushroom Matrix for many diseases including Cushing’s.
Katy decided that it was worth one last try.
After 3 weeks on the Matrix, Katy said “I was amazed at the outcome, which for the first time in months, as basic as it was I was able to ride him once again without him being in any pain or discomfort.”
“To date non of the problems have reoccurred, and he is looking the best he has ever looked in years, so much so that next month in November we are entering him back into competition with one of our young riders.
If you had suggested this to me back in June this year I would never have believed it, particularly given his previous medical history over the last 3-4 years and the condition he was in at the time.
The progress has also pleasantly surprised my vet who knows how much Kasper means to me personally, and therefore I cant thank Wayne and the Team Matrix enough for all their help, advice, and support during this very difficult period in our lives.
I hope it continues, and there is every sign that Kasper is enjoying riding and being part of our lives once again.” |
